The government will approve the IP TV within this month after the verification but no news can be broadcasted on such channels. Explaining the reason, the Information Minister said, 'IP TVs will not be allowed to broadcast news as per the broadcasting policy. Because even our mainstream TVs are not initially allowed to serve news. After running for six months or a year at first, they need to apply for news again, only then they get approval.' Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud gave this information in response to a question from media persons at the Secretariat on Monday. He said, 'There are many IP TVs in the country and many IP TVs are likely to come. But it is not desirable to spread confusion by serving irresponsible news. Therefore, the policy that has been passed states that the approval of IP TV registration will be given by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. However, they will not be allowed to serve the news. So far no IPTV has been approved, he said, adding that there are many IPTVs in the country which is not approved. Applications have been called, about 600 applications have been received. We will approve it very soon within this month. Since we have not started giving approval yet, there is no approved IP TV in the country. Tags: IP TVInformation MinisterRegistrationNews
